Dealing with Back to School Stress (In Person and Virtual)

Summer is over, and for the parents among us, that means we’re on the other side of an incredibly difficult decision: what will school look like for my kids this year? Whether you decided to full-on homeschool, send them back to in-person school, or something in between, chances are you are feeling some stress as everyone settles into a new routine. We’re here to help, with stress-relieving suggestions for any situation.

For the In-Person Parent

Back to a sense of reality! Getting up every morning, getting ready for the day, getting the kids ready, making sure everyone has something to eat and homework and shoes on and on and on… You need something to keep you sane through the chaos of getting everyone out the door. For a quick fix, enter CBD coffee creamer. Delicious and easy to pour into your coffee each day before the madness sets in.

For a more long-term way to stay calm in the moment, consider adding mantra meditation to your daily routine. Designed to be a quick option for centering yourself, it’s a great way to take your mind off of a stressful situation without having to stop what you’re doing. Engaging in a regular meditation practice can help reduce your overall stress levels.

Mantras are chosen with the intention of achieving certain goals. The number of times you repeat the word is dependent on the Mantra. If you are practicing very traditionally, using Buddhist or Hindu phrases, you may be repeating the word anywhere from three or six times to 108 times.
In the most basic of senses, and in perhaps a more Western approach, a Mantra can be words of affirmation or phrases of positivity. Whether you use traditional phases or a sentence you have found or curated to fit what you need in the moment, having a mantra during meditation can offer substantial benefits.

For the Virtual Parent

You may not be leaving the house every day, but getting each kid to their assigned spot in your home, making sure they are all connected to the internet and to their classrooms, and that they all have their supplies is no easy task. If you aren’t slammed with your own work, sneaking out for a quick jog after everyone is settled for the morning gives you a chance to burn off steam. When you get back, apply some CBD cream to any stiff spots on your legs to combat both stress and soreness.

For the Homeschooling Parent

You pulled the plug on school, at least for now. But you’re wondering what exactly you’re supposed to do with these kids all day. We won’t get into that here, but we will remind you that it’s okay to step away from the kids for a bit and take care of yourself! Leave them to their own devices and find a minute to roll out your yoga mat. We’ve compiled a list of the five best yoga poses for relaxing that can be combined into a very peaceful yoga flow, or you can find an instructor you like on YouTube.

The Bottom Line

No matter what decision you made for your kids’ education this year, we know it wasn’t an easy one. We encourage you each and every one of you to remember to be kind to yourself and to others, and to take it easy on yourself when you need a break. No one is perfect, and you are doing your best.
